On February 1, Texas celebrates its admittance into the United States as the 28th state.

When thinking about Texas, barbecue, the Dallas Cowboys, bluebonnets, or Tex-Mex cuisine might come to mind, but the Lone Star state offers so much more – from the Alamo to the Space Center, there’s plenty to see and do. Ask a Texan what they think about their state and 70 percent would tell you theirs is the best place to live in the entire country.

Bragging Rights

Nothing unites Texans like their love of essential Texas foods. While cardiologists would disagree with their choices, Texans can’t get enough of their barbecue, chicken fried steak, chili or fried okra. Texas’ answer to Coca-Cola was invented in Waco, Texas according to the Dr. Pepper Museum. Texans can walk off all of those calories on the 400 miles of picturesque coastline and enjoy the gorgeous beaches of South Padre Island or Corpus Christi.

Matthew McConaughey, Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas all hail from Texas. The state is no slouch for producing top leaders and business people with Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Howard Hughes, and Chris Kyle all claiming Texas as their home state.
