Summer Fun and Fireworks–How to Maneuver COVID 19 During July 4th.

The Fourth of July is a holiday that honors our most prized asset–freedom. While COVID-19 is still with us and several hot spots have shown a spike in cases the past few weeks, we do not necessarily have to change our plans for the upcoming holiday. However, our celebrations might need some added precautions to ensure we remain healthy and safe. NuVinAir offers the following five tips to keep you and your loved ones healthy while celebrating our country.

Going on a Camping Trip

Do your research and find a campground that is not highly populated. If you must camp where there are fellow campers nearby, remember to keep social distancing in your setup for eating, campfires, and sleeping. Bring your own soap, disinfectants, hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Campgrounds typically only have shared bathrooms, which increases your risk of contracting the virus. When you must visit such facilities, avoid touching as many items as possible and use a sanitary wipe to open doors or stalls. Immediately wash your hands after touching any surface.

Attending a Barbecue

If you are invited to a barbecue, find out how many people are coming. Remember that the more people you come into contact with, the higher your risk becomes of getting infected. One tip is to bring your own food and eating utensils. If you must go inside to use the restroom, bring sanitary wipes to open doors, wipe toilet handles and close the toilet lid after use.

Booking a Rental Home or Cabin

Before you book a getaway, find out from the homeowner or the rental company about the steps they take to clean and disinfect between guests. Many have established more stringent disinfecting and sanitizing procedures designed to minimize the spread of the virus. Minimize your time spent in enclosed spaces, such as elevators or stairwells. When you do enter common areas, remind your children and yourself to always wear masks and avoid “high contact” surfaces.

Lighting Fireworks

Whether you are heading to a large firework show or going to a small gathering of friends and neighbors, continue to wear your face mask, adopt social distancing and wash your hands. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission offers the following advice on enjoying fireworks safely:

  • Never allow children to handle fireworks.
  • Never re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited properly.
  • Keep a garden hose or bucket of water handy in case of fire.
  • Light fireworks one at a time.

Traveling for Vacation

Many people are avoiding air and train travel and are opting to take road trips this holiday. When you go, place hand sanitizer in the vehicle and always have face masks on hand for your passengers.
