NEW DRIVING LAWS IN 2020.

With the new year in full swing, it’s important everyone knows the new driving laws spanning the country.

  1. In Illinois, drivers who illegally pass a school bus will receive a heftier fine, up to $300 for an initial violation and between $500 – $1,000 for a second violation.
  2. Also in Illinois, drivers can no longer stream videos on their cell phones while driving.
  3. While texting and driving has been illegal in Florida for several years, police could not stop drivers for it unless they were pulled over for something else. Beginning January 1, Florida police no longer need a different reason to ticket drivers.
  4. California’s new law, AB5, attempts to provide greater protection for contract drivers in the state by aiming to reclassify them as employees, meaning companies would have to offer them benefits. Uber and Lyft are trying to find ways around the law, and other industries, from trucking to newspapers, are grappling with how to comply.
  5. In Massachusetts, they’ve been fighting for years for a law banning hand-held phones. On February 23, 2020, motorists caught using a phone while driving will receive a warning on their first offense until March 31. After that date, the fines get steep: $100 for a first offense, $250 for a second, and $500 for all others after that.

The beginning of a new year is a time to commit to living life safer, better and healthier.
