According to a report released earlier this year by IHS Markit, the average age of cars on the highway is at its highest point – 11.8 years since the tracking began in 2000.

Drivers in the western part of the country keep their vehicles an average of 12.4 years, which is much longer than the 10.9 years people keep vehicles in the Northeast.
Another interesting statistic from the IHS Markit report is that there are now 278 million vehicles on the road currently, which is six million more vehicles than there were in 2018.
