THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF USED CARS ON THE HIGHWAY RISES AGAIN.

According to a report released earlier this year by IHS Markit, the average age of cars on the highway is at its highest point – 11.8 years since the tracking began in 2000.

While the economy plays a part in people keeping their cars longer such as was the case during the great recession, geography plays an equally important role. Drivers in the western part of the country keep their vehicles an average of 12.4 years, which is much longer than the 10.9 years people keep vehicles in the Northeast.

Another interesting statistic from the IHS Markit report is that there are now 278 million vehicles on the road currently, which is six million more vehicles than there were in 2018.

A recent poll of NuVinAir’s followers revealed that 80% of people believe their new car they purchased doesn’t feel new after six months of ownership.  So, with the growing number of used cars merging onto the nation’s highways, how can car owners reclaim that new car feeling they once had?
